Episode 146

Moving Forward After Loss and Change

In today’s episode, I have the opportunity to speak with Rachel S. Heslin, an expert in individual and social psychology. Rachel is passionate about helping people become more flexible, resilient, and adept at managing change. Her journey began early, as her father, a clinical psychologist, introduced her to neurolinguistic programming at the age of nine, sparking a lifelong fascination with the human mind.

Rachel's path has been deeply influenced by her personal experiences, particularly her marriage. She shares how the challenges and growth in her relationship with her husband were pivotal in her life and her thinking. Rachel shares the profound loss she faced with her husband’s sudden passing, using it as a catalyst to delve deeper into her understanding of grief and resilience.

Rachel’s recent TEDx talk, titled “A Defense of Victim Mentality,” underscores her commitment to fostering compassion and understanding for others. This talk, given on the eve of the second anniversary of her husband’s death, was a heartfelt tribute filled with her wisdom and desire to assist others navigating their own struggles.

Listeners are encouraged to explore how thoughts, feelings, and actions interplay in shaping their lives, and how embracing these elements leads to personal growth, even in challenging times. Rachel’s insights are practical and helpful for anyone dealing with loss.
